Sony Xperia 1 VII Spotted on Geekbench with Snapdragon 8 Elite and Android 15

Date:

Sony appears to be gearing up for the launch of its next flagship smartphone—the Sony Xperia 1 VII. Positioned as the successor to the Xperia 1 VI, this upcoming handset has now surfaced on Geekbench, suggesting its debut may be just around the corner. The listing also offers a sneak peek at some of the core hardware and software specifications that could define Sony’s 2025 flagship experience.

Sony Xperia 1 VII Listed on Geekbench

A device with the model number Sony XQ-FS54 has been spotted on the Geekbench database, which is widely used for testing and comparing device performance. The listing reveals the presence of an octa-core chipset based on an ARM v8 architecture. It features two high-performance cores clocked at 4.32GHz and six additional cores running at 3.53GHz.

These clock speeds strongly indicate that the device is powered by Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC, making it the first Sony smartphone to adopt this flagship-level processor. This chipset promises top-tier performance, improved AI capabilities, and power efficiency.

Memory and Software Insights

The Geekbench listing also reveals that the Sony Xperia 1 VII comes equipped with approximately 10.90GB of RAM, which will likely be marketed as 12GB of RAM. This is consistent with other flagship smartphones in the same category. Additionally, the phone is listed to run on Android 15, making it among the early adopters of Google’s upcoming OS.

The device scored 2,967 points in the single-core test and 9,017 points in the multi-core test on Geekbench 6.4.0 for Android AArch64. These figures highlight the Xperia 1 VII’s flagship performance potential.

Expected Specifications and Features

While the full spec sheet is yet to be officially confirmed, previous leaks suggest the Sony Xperia 1 VII will sport a 6.5-inch display, similar to its predecessor, the Xperia 1 VI. The design is expected to retain thicker bezels on the top and bottom, a characteristic feature of the Xperia lineup.

The rear panel is likely to house a triple-camera setup, arranged vertically with distinct camera rings. Among these, a periscope telephoto lens is rumored to make an appearance, promising advanced zoom capabilities. The renders also indicate cutouts for an autofocus sensor and LED flash.

Dimension-wise, the Xperia 1 VII could measure 161.9 x 74.5 x 8.5 mm. The right side of the phone may feature a power button, volume rockers, and a dedicated camera shutter button, catering to mobile photography enthusiasts.

Other notable features likely to be retained include dual front-firing speakers, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a USB Type-C port for charging and data transfer.

Launch Timeline and Expectations

Although Sony has not officially confirmed the launch date for the Xperia 1 VII, the timing of the Geekbench and Taiwan NCC certification listings strongly hint that the launch is imminent. Considering that the Xperia 1 VI was launched in May 2024, the new model could debut within May 2025 as well.

As anticipation builds, more details are expected to emerge over the coming weeks, further outlining what users can expect from Sony’s next-generation flagship.
